The Web: Looking Back, Looking Forward
Last Tuesday David, Martyn and I headed to the Congress Centre near Tottenham Court Road to see Sir Tim Berners-Lee deliver a lecture, “The Web: Looking Back, Looking Forward”, for the British Computer Society.
Some quick info on Sir Tim:
He is the father and inventor of the World Wide Web (not to be confused with the Internet). Read up more about how it was done. Amongst other interesting roles, he is currently the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium - THE main international standards organisation seeking to "lead the web to its full potential".
The lecture was great! Not long into it you got the feeling that Sir Tim was brilliant. His presentation was not a well rehearsed 'dramatic pause' recital; it was him up there chattering away and jumping from one train of thought to the next. Sometimes you got the impression that he was having trouble keeping up with himself. Couple that with his geek-like enthusiasm, optimism and the collection of typos throughout the presentation slides and it seemed like my first impression was spot on - Sir Tim is a brilliant fellow.
It was an amazing lecture. There were so many things to take away and to think about. Thanks Tim.
